Innovation Laboratory – Encouraging the Production, Availability, Access, and Consumption of Fruits, Vegetables, and Greens

Synopsis:

The intake of fruits, legumes, and vegetables (FLV) has been widely recognized as a critical factor for maintaining health, ensuring proper nutrition, and preventing chronic diseases—including obesity and cancer. Consequently, initiatives promoting FLV consumption as part of healthy dietary guidelines have gained prominence in public policy agendas. Today, their promotion is embedded in actions, programs, and publications across multiple sectors.

Brazil’s National Food and Nutrition Policy, implemented by the Ministry of Health, aims to improve the population’s dietary, nutritional, and health conditions through:

Promotion of adequate and healthy eating practices;

Food and nutritional surveillance;

Prevention and comprehensive care of diet-related health issues.

Through its “Promotion of Adequate and Healthy Eating” framework, the policy establishes measures to:

Implement supportive public policies;

Create health-friendly environments where individuals and communities can adopt healthy behaviors;
