Dialogues on Nutrition and Poverty: 20 Years of Integration between Research, Service, and Public Policy

Synopsis:

The Two Brazils: Who They Are, Where They Are, and How Poor Brazilians Live” was the first publication by the Nutrition and Poverty Research Group (GPNP) at the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA-USP) in 2003. Twenty years later, despite all the changes and efforts on many fronts, the GPNP continues to propose integral human development—not just socio-economic—as the way to overcome unacceptable poverty.

This book brings together the essence of the work carried out by the GPNP over these two decades, telling the story of how research, service experience, and public management perspectives have been placed in dialogue to address the complex food security landscape in Brazil. Based on the interactions between these different fields, the book offers a deep reflection on solutions to the challenges of nutrition and poverty in the country.
