Community Gardens: Potential for Food and Nutrition Security
Synopsis:
Food insecurity is a reality for 125 million Brazilians, with 33 million experiencing severe hunger. Malnutrition, in the forms of undernutrition, obesity, and other nutritional deficiencies, shares common causes: inequality in access to healthy food. To address such a complex and structural issue as food insecurity, we need to be creative and respond systemically. This dialogue invites reflection on the potential of urban gardens as a tool for promoting healthy eating, combating inequality, environmental sustainability, as well as well-being and quality of life.
The discussion explored the possibilities that community gardens can bring to São Paulo: access to healthy food and reflections on the environment and food production.
