25 abr GISELA SOLYMOS BECOMES VISITING PROFESSOR IN US
Co-founder and former general manager of CREN – Centre for Nutritional Recovery and Education, Gisela Solymos has become visiting professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Notre Dame University in Indiana, USA.
Invited by the Interdisciplinary Center for Network Science and Applications (iCeNSA), she will work for one year in collaboration with two other institutes, the Kellogg Institute for International Studies and the University’s Center for Innovation, De-Risking and Enterprise Acceleration (IDEA).
The work will focus on the development of Sherlock Knowledge Center, which, among other products, will create a platform for the integration of different types of knowledge. Its goal is to support interventions in child and youth health and nutrition. One of the products of the new Center will be the creation of a universal electronic medical record, modeled on the reality of CREN.
Gisela told that “the concept is to develop tools that integrate the different types of existing knowledge with a focus on health professionals who are in the field. By centralizing the information, it will be possible to cross-reference the data, including from more than one institution, in order to obtain the best intervention solutions. ”

To bridge the gap between CREN and Notre Dame University, the project has the support of researchers from the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of the University of São Paulo. In addition, the Global Academy Foundation, CREN´s partner, is working on the collection and systematization of qualitative data on nutrition interventions.
Graduated in Psychology from the University of São Paulo, Gisela Solymos has a Master’s degree in Psychology from University of São Paulo (USP) and is PhD in Sciences from the Department of Psychiatry and Medical Psychology from Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp). She was the general manager of CREN until August 2017, coordinating numerous educational and assistance projects in Brazil and abroad to overcome malnutrition and poverty.
In 2011, the psychologist was elected Entrepreneur Social 2011 by the Schwab Foundation and in 2012 by Ernest & Young. Gisela Solymos is Ashoka organization´s fellow since 2012. As CREN´s associate, Gisela continues to actively participate in the institution as a member of the Management Committee.
